Plastic Surgery for the Young at Heart

Senior couple with bicycle in autumn parkPlastic surgery isn’t just for the young or the mid-lifers, Hollywood divas or the wealthy; plastic surgery has now become common practice for both men and women of all ages and walks of life. Recent statistics show that the popularity of procedures like brow lifts and breast augmentations have now become popular to the senior crowd.

Patients over the age of 65 have sought out plastic surgery procedures including; face lifts, cosmetic eyelid surgery, liposuction, breast reduction, forehead lifts and breast lifts.  Performing elective surgery on baby boomers, have brought a set of concerns to the operating table that typically aren’t associated with younger patients, such as high blood pressure or coronary heart disease.  That being said, advancements in medicine have made plastic surgery safer for older patients than it was in the past.

If patients are properly screened prior to the surgery, there is no statistically significant increase in complications. The key to successful cosmetic surgery is to carefully screen patients prior to the procedure since age is not a determining factor of success or safety.

Many older patients are seeking out cosmetic procedures today, because a longer life expectancy and healthier lifestyles are driving them to look as young outside as they feel on the inside. Seniors are also increasingly having non-surgical procedures like injectable facial fillers to reduce wrinkles and skin care procedures like laser resurfacing and chemical peels to bring back that youthful glow to their skin.
