As we grow older, our hands often give away our age. They lose firmness and volume, leaving the bones and tendons more visible.  You may want to consider hand rejuvenation if your hands have prominent veins and tendons because of volume loss, are wrinkled and thin, have age spots or would benefit from improved skin tone and color.

Hands are one of the first places where the telltale signs of aging become apparent. Even if you have taken steps to keep your face and neck looking youthful, sun-damaged, veiny, wrinkled hands can make you look older than you are. There are a number of effective techniques to rejuvenate your hands, improving the quality and texture of your skin, while decreasing the wrinkling and prominent veins.

Non-Surgical Hand Rejuvenation

One of the most popular procedures for hand rejuvenation or volume replacement is a dermal filler, such as Radiesse.  Radiesse has long been used as a dermal filler in faces, filling in wrinkles and plumping any areas that have become hollow. The filler is injected into the hand at multiple locations and placed in layers at multiple levels to reshape and augment the hands; adding volume and reducing the bony look to give you more youthful hands.

Surgical Hand Rejuvenation – Fat Transfer

Fat Transfer is a viable option to improve areas on the hands where the skin is slack or the veins sit too close to the surface of the skin. The added fat will bring volume to the lacking area, and make the skin smoother and tauter so that the veins are not quite as prominent. During a fat transfer procedure, Dr. Magassy will take the fat from another area of the body, purify the removed fat and then inject the fat into the specified area on the hands. This procedure is ideal for those who would also like liposuction on an area where there are excess amounts of fat deposits.

After rejuvenation your hands will be smoother and fuller and your veins will be far less prominent.  Hands may still look “mature” from sun damage.  There are options for correcting sun damage such as chemical peels or laser skin resurfacing.

Whether your hand rejuvenation requires volume replacement or correction of sun damage, Dr. Magassy and the staff of Plastic Surgery Associates have numerous treatment options to choose from. Most procedures are minimally invasive and require no to little downtime.  If your “matured” hands are concerning you, schedule your consultation with Dr. Magassy.  His private surgical suite in McLean, VA is conveniently located for patients in Northern Virginia and Washington DC.
